Charles John Geddes, Baron Geddes of Epsom CBE (1 March 1897 – 2 May 1983) was a British trade unionist. Born in Camberwell, London, Geddes joined the Post Office in 1911. He served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Flying Corps during World War I, and on his return to civilian work, became active in the new Union of Post Office Workers. He was Deputy General Secretary of the union from 1941, then General Secretary from 1944 to 1957.〔"Obituary: Peacemaker of the TUC", ''The Guardian'', 4 May 1983〕 In 1955, he served as President of the Trades Union Congress.〔(Details of Past Congresses ), Trades Union Congress〕 Geddes was Chairman of Polyglass Ltd. Appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1950, Geddes was Knighted in 1957. On 4 August 1958, he became the third life peer created under the Life Peerages Act 1958, with the title Baron Geddes of Epsom, of Epsom in the County of Surrey. He died aged 86. ==References== 〔 *
